FIELD: mechanical engineering, particularly, methods of manufacture of wheel flanges of rolling stock; applicable in heat treatment of members of parts with external surfaces of revolution. SUBSTANCE: heat treatment of wheel flanges is performed by rotating discs. Simultaneously with treatment of working surface of wheel flange by main disc, additional disc is brought to end surface of wheel rim on side of flange in direction perpendicular to end surface of wheel rim. Treatment with friction by two discs ensures deeper heating, obtaining layer with required hardness of larger thickness and formation of hardening structures with low intensity of wear of friction pair - wheel flange-rail. EFFECT: increased depth of hardening of wheel flange working surface and, correspondingly, prolonged service life of wheel. 1 dwg
