METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR LOCKING THREADED JOINT Russian patent published in 2002 - IPC

FIELD: machine engineering, possibly locking threaded joints for mounting sealing lids of containers for transportation and(or) storage radioactive materials. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of tightening nut and subsequently fixing mutual position of nut and threaded rod with the aid of locking washer of metallic sheet material by means of engaging members provided on nut and threaded rod respectively. Before joining nut and threaded rod, locking washer is placed on nut and it is fixed against axial motion and rotation relative to nut. Then nut is tightened at providing guaranteed predetermined distance between end of threaded rod and locking washer; locking washer by means of punch is pressed on end engaging member of threaded rod. Apparatus for locking threaded joint includes threaded rod, nut and locking washer of metallic sheet material placed on nut and fixed against axial motion and rotation. Locking washer includes members engaging with respective engagement members provided on nut and on end of threaded rod. Locking washer is plastic one. Nut has opening for punch for pressing locking washer on end engaging member of threaded rod after tightening nut. Threaded rod and nut are made in such a way that after tightening nut, end of threaded rod does not protrude outside surface supporting locking washer on nut.
