FIELD: mechanical engineering; mechanical braking devices. SUBSTANCE: invention is designed for braking rotating shafts. Proposed brake has connecting mechanism through which driving member sets into operation driven member for combined rotation. Brake is provided also with fixed support with friction surface and braking part connected with driven member. Connecting mechanism has acting and driven units which can be mated at relative displacement. Units execute relative displacement when driving force is applied to or removed from driving member, as a result of which driven unit displaces relative to driven member in direction of pressing to or moving off braking part from said friction surface to brake or release driven member. Connecting mechanism has also special limiter for restricting value of relative displacement of acting and driven units and for providing their combined movement after braking or releasing of driven member. EFFECT: provision of compact brake which, at normal movement or in static state of body ensures its braking or releasing without use of additional power drive. 16 cl, 19 dwg
