FIELD: gasoline production. SUBSTANCE: increased efficiency in determining octane number of motor car gasolines is achieved through preliminarily establishing dependence (graph, table, etc.) of an informational parameter of gasoline on its octane number. This informational parameter can be velocity of ultrasonic wave transmission in gasoline at two different fixed temperatures. Octane number is then determined from the following relationship: octane number = 40[(V1- V2)/100+200/V2], where V1 ultrasonic wave transmission velocity at 20 C and V2 the same at 40 C. Ultrasonic frequencies are selected within the range between 100 and 200 kHz. EFFECT: improved determination accuracy. 14 cl, 1 dwg
