FIELD: method of continuous production of magnesium; metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: magnesium is produced from magnesium oxide and light hydrocarbon gas which are continuously fed to reaction zone of main reactor chamber where they interact at temperature of 1400 C or higher till continuous flow of product is obtained from reaction products which include elemental magnesium. Flow of product is subjected to continuous abrupt cooling in product separating chamber after escape from reaction zone and elemental magnesium is separated from other reaction products, thus ensuring continuous production of magnesium at atmospheric pressure and use of low-cost raw materials.
