FIELD: transport engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to exhaust systems of vehicles. Proposed converter contains housing with at least two catalyst carriers arranged mainly in tandem, each being provided with axial channels with first mean area of cross section. First carrier has at least two or more side through holes which pass in parallel with said axial channels and they have larger second cross section area as compared with first cross section area. Claim provides description of design and method of manufacture of first carrier of catalytic converter consisting of at least one pack made up of many layers of at least partially structurized metal sheets. Device is furnished with fork twisting arrangement practically completely enclosed by form and turnable around central axle and acting onto each pack. Invention proposed catalytic converter which requires small space for installation and features optimum aerodynamic properties. EFFECT: increased service life of carrier used in catalytic converter. 18 cl, 4 dwg
