SUBSTANCE: invention relates to derivatives of polyhydroxyalkylpyrazines of the formula (I) used as active component in drug where either R₁ means chain -CH(Ra)-CHOH-CHOH-CH₂OH and R₂ means chain -CH₂CHOH-CHOH-CH₂OH or R₁ means chain CH₂-CHOH-CHOH-CH₂OH and R₂ means chain -CH₂-CHOH-CHOH-CH₂OH; either R₁ and R₂ are similar and each means chain -(CHOH)_n-CH₂OH where n = 1, 2, 3 or 4; RA means alkoxyl radical with 1-6 carbon atoms as direct or branched chain with exception for compounds of formulas (II) and (III) . Invention describes also method of synthesis of compounds of the formula (I). Compounds show hypoglycemic activity and can be used in therapy for prophylaxis and treatment of diabetes mellitus.
