SUBSTANCE: invention describes a medicinal agent comprising as an active component at least one polyhydroxybutylpyrazine of the formula (I) where: either (A) each of R9 and R10 means radical -CH2OH or (a) R3 means methylene; R4 means radical -CHOH- and of radicals R1,R2,R5,R6 means methylene, -CHF- or -(CH(OR8)- and each of other means -CHOH-; (b) each of R2 and R5 means -CHOH-; R3 means methylene and R1 R4 R6 are similar and each means -CH(OR8)-; (c) each of R1 and R6 means -CHOH-; R3 means methylene and R2,R4,R5 are similar and each means -CH(OR8)-; (d) each of R1,R4,R5,R6 means radical -CHOH- and -R2-R3- mean radical -CH= CH-; either (B) each of R1,R2,R3,R4,R5,R6 means radical -CHOH-; R3 means methylene; R9 means radical -CH2OH,; R10 means -CH2F; R8 means alkyl with 1-6 carbon atoms in linear or branched chain, one of its stereomers or one of its salts. Invention describes also polyhydroxybutylpyrazine of the formula (I), methods of synthesis of polyhydroxybutylpyrazines and the use of polyhydroxybutylpyrazine of the formula (A) as an active medicinal agent used for treatment or prophylaxis of diabetes mellitus and its complications.
