SUBSTANCE: invention describes a medicinal agent comprising as an active component at least one polyhydroxybutylpyrazine of the formula (I) where: either (A) each of R₉ and R₁₀ means radical -CH₂OH or (a) R₃ means methylene; R₄ means radical -CHOH- and of radicals R₁,R₂,R₅,R₆ means methylene, -CHF- or -(CH(OR₈)- and each of other means -CHOH-; (b) each of R₂ and R₅ means -CHOH-; R₃ means methylene and R₁ R₄ R₆ are similar and each means -CH(OR₈)-; (c) each of R₁ and R₆ means -CHOH-; R₃ means methylene and R₂,R₄,R₅ are similar and each means -CH(OR₈)-; (d) each of R₁,R₄,R₅,R₆ means radical -CHOH- and -R₂-R₃- mean radical -CH= CH-; either (B) each of R₁,R₂,R₃,R₄,R₅,R₆ means radical -CHOH-; R₃ means methylene; R₉ means radical -CH₂OH,; R₁₀ means -CH₂F; R₈ means alkyl with 1-6 carbon atoms in linear or branched chain, one of its stereomers or one of its salts. Invention describes also polyhydroxybutylpyrazine of the formula (I), methods of synthesis of polyhydroxybutylpyrazines and the use of polyhydroxybutylpyrazine of the formula (A) as an active medicinal agent used for treatment or prophylaxis of diabetes mellitus and its complications.
