FIELD: hydraulic engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to protect young fishes in water intakes. Fish protecting device of water intake has approach, water intake and fish outlet channels provided with bottom and side walls, barrier and impervious to water wall installed at angle to flow in approach channel between its slope and barrier. Said barrier is made water permeable, with side flat vertical wall of approach channel, within the limits of barrier, arranged as angle α relative to barrier plane. Said angle is calculated by formula. Bottom of approach channel is horizontal lengthwise the channel. Barrier can be made in form of grid, louvers or vertical rods. Proposed device improves efficiency of protection of young fishes. EFFECT: reduced cost of building and operating expenses, improved reliability in operation. 8 cl, 2 dwg
