FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, production of spongy titanium by magnesium-thermal reduction of titanium tetrachloride. SUBSTANCE: process winning spongy titanium includes pouring of molten magnesium, continuous feed of titanium tetrachloride, reduction of titanium tetrachloride by magnesium, cooling of apparatus in zone of reaction by supply of air and removal of heated air from furnace, heating of lower zone of apparatus, discharge of obtained salt of magnesium chloride. In agreement with invention apparatus is cooled uninterruptedly in the course of entire process of reduction, lower zone of apparatus is heated by heated air discharged from furnace through lower collector. Air comes for heating from above thanks to pressure difference. Pressure differential of 4.9-49.0 kPa is kept in upper and lower collector to supply air and discharge it from furnace and rate of removal of air from lower collector amounts to 3000.0 cu m/h.
