FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy; preparation of chloro-magnesium raw material for electrolysis. SUBSTANCE: method includes the following stages: melting chlorination, settling, tapping melt and exhaust of waste gases which are performed in separate units; at melting stage, melt is treated with hydrogen chloride and at chlorination stage, melt is treated with hydrogen chloride and chlorine simultaneously. Device proposed for realization of this method includes melting unit with device for obtaining hydrogen chloride which is located in melting chamber tuyere, chlorination unit with tuyeres for delivery of chlorine and device for obtaining hydrogen chloride mounted in tuyere, settling, waste gas exhaust branch pipes; units are mounted at definite distances relative to one another and are made in form of hermetic cylinders interconnected by means of melt lines for joint motion of waste gases and melt; chlorination unit consists of two parts: cylindrical part in upper portion and truncated cone in lower portion; chlorine and hydrogen chloride delivery tuyeres have form of truncated cone in lower portion.
