FIELD: composite materials. SUBSTANCE: materials suited to temperature-resistant gasproof coatings for protection of structural materials used in mechanical engineering and motor-car construction are manufactured in a process involving preliminarily preparing sol based on water-alcohol solution of tetraethoxysilane with added inorganic acid and metal salts (45-49,5%, all additives included) and further supplemented by aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol (1-10% of alcohol in total material) and weighed quantity of refractory oxide powder as filler (45- 49.5%). Suspension is first homogenized, allowed to stand until gelation is completed, and resulting gel is dried and thermally treated. EFFECT: increased adhesive power of glass-ceramic coatings applied by plasma-spraying technique due to homogeneous distribution of glass-forming constituent throughout the volume of starting disperse oxide powder. 1 tbl
