FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves carrying out ultrasonic scanning of posterior cnemic muscle group at maximum relaxation state at the level of superior and medial one-third of the extremity crus strictly in perpendicular to the posterior surface. Musculus soleus tissue structure is determined by building ultrasonic amplitude histogram of zone of interest which area is equal to 1 sq.cm on the musculus soleus, the center of the zone being defined by reference point of intersection of the perpendicular dropped from medial edge of the fibula to the scanning plane and the center of the musculus soleus cross-section. The musculus gastrocnemius structure is determined by building ultrasonic amplitude histogram of zone of interest which area is equal to 1 sq.cm on the musculus gastrocnemius, the center of the zone being defined by reference point of intersection of the perpendicular dropped from medial edge of the tibia to the scanning plane and the center of the musculus gastrocnemius cross-section. Ultrasonic amplitude histogram, maximum value detection index and standard deviation are determined. Musculus soleus and gastrocnemius structure is evaluated from the obtained data as normal one having structural signs of dystrophy, moderate or marked hypotrophy, moderate or marked atrophy.
