METHOD OF MINING OF STEEP COAL SEAM Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: mining; applicable in mining of coal and other minerals from steep beds. SUBSTANCE: method includes driving of workings for coal haulage and ventilation of breakage face, development of breakage face at angle of 75 deg. to strike line of pillar towards anticipated advance of breakage face, mounting of shearer with its suspension from traction or safety rope, coal extraction by shearer in its motion upward, gravity haulage of broken coal along breakage face and its loading into vehicle at junction between breakage face and haulage gate, roof support by hydraulically powered supports. Drilled on seam boundaries with roof rocks and floor rocks are holes towards anticipated mining of pillar with their uniform spacing along breakage face. Hole mouths are located on perpendiculars to bedding. Installed into each hole is one end of supporting beam having drilling tool, with beam other end connected by means of hydraulic prop and telescopic guard with similar end of opposite beam. Coal is extracted by shearer in spaces between rows of supporting beams. Shearer prepares path for itself at level somewhat higher than row of supporting beams at seam floor and supplies power to drive systems of drilling tools and hydraulic props of nearest supporting beams.
