FIELD: organic synthesis catalysts. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to catalyst for producing vinyl acetate starting from ethylene, oxygen, and acetic acid, which catalyst consists of porous carrier with deposited thereon effective amounts of copper, palladium, and gold. Preparation of catalyst comprises preliminarily covering carrier with water-insoluble copper form, depositing water-insoluble palladium compound onto preliminarily covered carrier, reducing this palladium compound and, if it was not made earlier, water-insoluble copper form into catalytically efficient amount of free metal, whereupon copper- and palladium-containing carrier is impregnated with potassium aurate solution, which is then reduced into catalytically efficient amount of gold metal. Method of invention provides catalyst wherein Pd, Cu, and Au form a metal distribution layer on carrier surface. EFFECT: reduced selectivity regarding carbon dioxide and strengthened retention of gold on catalyst. 8 cl, 1 tbl, 4 ex
