FIELD: production of decorative coats on articles made of glass, ceramics and other materials with optically smooth surface. SUBSTANCE: process can be employed to deposit decorative coats on commodities, finishing-decorative and fancy articles produced by various spheres of economy. Process includes deposition of layer of niobium on surface of article by magnetron sputtering and electrochemical anodization of deposited layer of niobium in 1.0-2.0% solution of tartrate ammonia at room temperature first under condition of constant current and then under condition of constant voltage. Process of deposition of protective-decorative coats is based on use of partially anodized niobium films produced by means of standard technological equipment and makes it feasible to obtain fine appearance of articles with stable bright color not changing in the course of several years. EFFECT: winning of bright stable long-lasting color of decorative coats. 1 tbl
