FIELD: decontaminating radioactive liquids accumulated in cooling ponds to prevent pollution of environment. SUBSTANCE: method intended to decontaminate cooling pond to prevent pollution of environment by accumulated radioactive materials in case of storms, gust wind, and the like involves use of sorbent for the purpose. Pond bottom is covered with clay, then pond is gradually filled with sorbent in the form of glauconitic sand. Excess water is discharged through pond-side wells partially filled with glauconitic sand. Use of natural materials, that is clay and glauconitic sand, as well as available monitoring wells makes this method for decontaminating cooling ponds polluted by radionuclides very cost-effective. EFFECT: facilitated procedure, enhanced reliability and economic efficiency of proposed method. 2 cl, 1 ex
