FIELD: inorganic compounds technology and oxidation catalysts. SUBSTANCE: objective of invention is to provide catalyst for oxidation ammonia into nitrous oxide by oxygen or oxygen-containing gas, which catalyst would be active and selective with regard to N2O and contain reduced amount of active ingredient. Objective is reached by using catalyst including manganese-containing component and oxide support containing at least one of the following oxides: MgO, CaO, SrO, BaO, Al2O3, Fe2O3. said active component being a composition representing (i) mixed amorphous oxide phase with nonstoichiometric analysis: MnRxOy(0,05≤x≤2,24; 1,08≤y≤5,36) wherein R denotes bismuth and/or lanthanoid, or (ii) mixture of amorphous phase MnRxOy and crystalline manganese-containing phase. Oxidation of ammonia in presence of above described catalyst is conducted at 300-400 C. Catalyst is also characterized by reduced bulk weight on the level of 0.65-0.7 g/cu.cm.
