FIELD: lighting engineering. SUBSTANCE: method that can be used to eliminate unwanted operation of ballast resistor protective gear in response to supply mains noise and to facilitate adjustment of ballast resistor in the course of manufacture to compensate for process discrepancy in load parameters includes transient monitoring of starter ballast resistors and semiconductor devices of fluorescent lamps for condition; transient monitoring is conducted against resonance-tuned load components during mode-by-mode differentiated time intervals fixed in length in each mode. EFFECT: enhanced reliability of protective gear; enlarged service life of fluorescent lamps. 1 cl, 1 dwg
