FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method for preparing 3-[2-cyclopropyl-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-3- quinolyl]prop-2-enal of the formula (3) that is an intermediate compound in synthesis of cholesterol- reducing agents. Indicated method involves interaction of 2-cyclopropyl-4-(4-fluorophenyl)quinoline-3- carboaldehyde with diethylcyanomethylphosphonate in the presence of a base at temperature from 20 to 40 C to yield 3-(2-cyclopropyl-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-quinolyl)-prop-2-enenitrile and the further interaction of 3-(2- cyclopropyl-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-quinolyl)-prop-2-enenitrile with diisobutylaluminium hydride at temperature from 5 to 10 C to yield the end compound. Invention describes also an intermediate compound 3-[2-cyclopropyl-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-quinolyl] -prop-2-enenitrile. EFFECT: improved preparing method, simplified process. 3 cl, 1 ex
