FIELD: electrical engineering. SUBSTANCE: proposed method and device are used for high-speed charging of hermetically sealed storage batteries connected to pulse-width modulation charge-discharge converters. When storage battery is connected to device, its type is automatically defined and charge algorithm suited to this battery type is chosen. Charge control criteria are invoked according to chosen algorithm. Upon defining any of charge- algorithm specified criteria or their sequence charging is ceased. Device has specified-algorithm control circuit and power equipment control circuit. Control unit in the form of single-chip microprocessor generates signals in compliance with charge algorithm for controlling high-frequency pulse-width modulation converters. Storage battery is connected to charging pulse-width modulation converter as its load and also functions as power supply for discharging pulse-width modulation converter. Signal picked off current sensor is supplied to single-chip microprocessor which specifies and maintains desired level of charge and discharge current in compliance with charge algorithm. Signal taken off battery voltage sensor is conveyed to single-chip multiprocessor for monitoring charging process and determining end-of-charge criteria. Integrated single-chip microprocessors incorporating analog-to-digital converter, pulse-width modulation units, internal program and data memory, and high-frequency pulse-width modulation converters functioning as power supplies enables cutting down power equipment loss, reducing device size and mass. Device is designed for high-speed charging of NiCd and NiMH sealed storage batteries and Li-ION batteries. EFFECT: enlarged functional capabilities; reduced size and mass of device. 2 cl, 2 dwg
