FIELD: electrical engineering; charging hermetically sealed storage batteries. SUBSTANCE: device designed for high-speed charge of NiCd and NiMH sealed storage batteries as well as LiION batterers depends for its operation on charge/discharge pulse-width modulated (PWM) transducers. Battery connection to device automatically defines type of battery, and charging algorithm is chosen in compliance with this battery type. Device has control circuit operating in accordance with desired algorithm and power equipment control circuit. Control unit in the form of single-chip microprocessor generates signals in compliance with charging algorithm to control high-frequency PWM transducers. Charge PWM transducer is loaded into storage battery that also functions as power supply for discharge PWM transducer. Signal picked off current sensor is supplied to single-chip microprocessor that specifies and maintains desired level of charging and discharging current according to charging algorithm. Signal picked off battery voltage sensor is passed to single-chip microprocessor for monitoring charging process and determining end-of- charge criteria.
