SUBSTANCE: drum type crystallizer includes housing; unit for forming crust in the form of rotating drum communicated with system for feeding heat transfer agent to its cavity; unit for feeding melt metal to working surface of drum; unit for forming blanks of flakes; unit for removing crust; unit for receiving product in the form of flakes and control system. Unit for forming blanks of flakes is in the form of connection member supporting set of plates whose surfaces engage with working surface of drum. Said connection member is communicated with system for feeding heat transfer agent and it is arranged along generatrix of working surface of drum. Unit for forming blanks of flakes may be provided with drive for cyclic reciprocation motion of plate set in radial direction. Said plates may have trapezoidal cross section lowering towards working surface of drum. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of process, improved uniformity of product. 3 cl, 5 dwg
