FIELD: metallurgy; methods of delivery of main gas to molten metal pool; electric-arc furnaces. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes burning auxiliary oxygen with fuel for forming flame envelope around supersonic jet of main gas for protection of main gas against penetration of surrounding gases when it passes through gas space of furnace, thus maintaining initial force of gas at injection into gas space owing to which injection of gas into furnace may be performed at safe distance from surface of molten metal ensuring complete penetration of gas into molten metal. Flame envelope extends over at least 75% of entire length of jet of main flow inside furnace from lance nozzle outlet as far as molten metal pool. Jet of main gas, oxygen or inert gas for example penetrates through surface of molten metal pool retaining supersonic velocity at this point. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency. 12 cl, 1 ex
