FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to an electric furnace and a method of producing molten iron by melting a cold iron source using electrical energy. Electric furnace is DC arc furnace, AC arc furnace or induction melting furnace and comprises a burner directed towards the contents of the furnace and comprising a powder supply pipe, a nozzle hole for injecting fuel and a nozzle hole for injecting combustion-supporting gas. Burner is designed so that to enable formation of the burner flame by means of injecting a jet of gaseous hydrogen or hydrogen-enriched gaseous fuel as fuel. Powder supply pipe is configured to supply auxiliary material in form of powder or processed into powder form, so that the auxiliary material as a heat transfer medium passes through the inner part of the burner flame and is blown onto a cold iron source, onto molten iron or onto slag on the surface of molten iron.

EFFECT: invention provides stable melting using electric energy and heat source with reduced CO2 emissions.
