FIELD: air and water purification from noxious gases and microorganisms. SUBSTANCE: the invention presents a method and a device to synthesize ozone and may be used for air purification from noxious gases and microorganisms, and also for water purification and water preparation. The method of a synthesis of ozone in a volumetric electric discharge provides that in a electrode system an electric field duration of no more than 500x1010-9 sec is formed with an irregularity factor of a field not less than 2 and rate of rise of the electric field strength on the electrode surface with a smaller radius of curvature of no less than 2•1013 V/m•s. The device of the synthesis of ozone has a body, gas inlet and outlet branch-pipes and the cooling liquid inlet and outlet branch-pipes fixed on the body, the electrode system located in the body with digit elements, each of which will consist from coaxial an external low-voltage electrode and the internal high-voltage electrode, connected to the high-voltage power supply. The ratio of an inner radius of the external electrode and outside radius of the inner electrode is described by the following disparity r<R/e, where "r"- is the outside radius of the inner electrode; R is the inner radius of the an external electrode; e is the base of the natural logarithm.
