FIELD: medicine, in particular, non-surgical spine treatment methods. SUBSTANCE: method involves subjecting spine to the action of wedge-shaped expandable device by inserting said device between spinous processes and expanding the latter by 2-5 mm through increasing expansion extent of members of wedge-shaped device. Apparatus has expandable wedge-shaped device composed of two wedge halves, which are axially connected and joined to one another with their flat sides. Wedge halves have handles with return spring arranged therebetween for providing contacting of wedge halves. Method and apparatus increases intervertebral space to result in reducing of compensating action of discal hernia on spinal cord elements, and allow force to be applied to selected regions depending on specific disease and number of curable and recoverable functions of organism to be widened. EFFECT: reduced physical force applied by specialist to wedge- shaped device and pain experienced by patient to be substantially eliminated. 3 cl, 1 dwg
