FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: method relates to method for preparing N-methylaniline by catalytic hydrogenation of nitrobenzene with hydrogen in the presence of methanol on copper- -chrome- aluminum catalyst. Process is carried out successively in two reaction zones at 160-200 C in the first zone up to the complete conversion of nitrobenzene and at 210-240 C in the second zone up to degree of aniline conversion 93%, not less, in the mole ratio nitrobenzene : methanol : hydrogen = 1 : (2-4) : (4-10), respectively. Method provides preparing the end product with yield above 92% that can be used as a commercial product without additional purification (rectification) for preparing complex additions to gasoline to elevate the octane number. EFFECT: improved preparing method. 1 tbl, 14 ex
