SURGICAL METHOD AND ROD SYSTEM FOR SETTING INSTABLE PELVIS AND LONG TUBULAR BONE INJURIES Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

Abstract RU 2223707 C2

FIELD: medical engineering. SUBSTANCE: method involves cutting skin and soft tissues over the place the screws into bone with linear cuts on both sides of bone fracture and dislocation. Rod is introduced through one of cuts and brought out through another one. The screws are screwed into the bone. The rods are fixed with the screws arranging the rod system under skin close to fracture and dislocation. When fixing pubic bones, place for screwing the screws in is selected in particular cases so that space is left between rod and pubic bone above the place the blood vessels and nerves pass, when fixing the rods. Multi-fragmental pubic bone fracture being the case, the bones are fixed with two rods. One end of rod is attached to one iliac bone and the other end to the other iliac bone. The rod system has rods, screws having conic thread and spherical head and washers with nuts for attaching screws to the rods. Rods having metric thread for nuts and not more than three grooves for breaking the rod are fixed in the center of spherical heads. The washer is designed as clamp which jaws have semicircular notches Double-sided spherical countersink for spherical head. Washer surface turned to nut is spherically convex. The nut has bead 1.3-1.5 times as large as the basic nut size on the side facing the washer with hemispheric coaxial recess having radius equal to that of spherically convex washer surface. Slits are made on rod ends turned by 90 deg relative to each other. Conical self-tapping thread is manufactured on the screws. EFFECT: reduced risk of traumatic complications and infection. 4 cl, 8 dwg
