SUBSTANCE: invention relates to manufacture of continuous and staple mineral fibers from basalt rocks with elevated strength and chemical stability, which may find use in manufacture of building materials with heat- and sound-insulation properties, in power engineering, and other areas. Rock used in claimed method includes SiO2, Al2O3, CaO, MgO, Fe2O3, K2O and Na2O, and principal glass-forming and alkali metal oxides are contained in following proportions: 61- 64% SiO2 and 9.0-9.2% K2O+Na2O.
