FIELD: electrical power engineering, equipment limiting short-circuit currents under emergency conditions. SUBSTANCE: current-limiting device incorporates hollow electrodynamic mechanism with mobile and immobile electrodynamic sections. Thickness of section walls is greater than penetration depth of electromagnetic wave into conducting material of which they are made. Device also has ferromagnetic mass of shaped configuration located inside of electrodynamic mechanism. Mobile electrodynamic sections move under condition of short-circuit into bosoms of ferromagnetic mass causing abrupt increase of magnetic flux and emergence of considerable counter emf in electrodynamic mechanism which is equivalent to bringing of inductive resistor which value is preset by specifications into network. EFFECT: simplified design and enhanced functional reliability of current-limiting device. 3 dwg
