FIELD: high-temperature plasma engineering; high-power roentgen radiation sources.
SUBSTANCE: device noted for reduced probability of the development of various pinch instabilities has two coaxially arranged and axially separated circular electrodes connected to switch-mode power supply and plasma-initiating members placed in electric contact with electrodes and inserted in-between. In addition device has insulators whose quantity equals that of plasma-initiating members and one of their sides is made in the form of cylindrical surface section. Insulators are installed between electrodes so that cylindrical surface generatrix is parallel to device center line and tangent to guiding cylindrical surface at point closest to center line does not cross center line of device. Insulators are positioned equally relative to center line and each plasma-initiating member is disposed on cylindrical surface end of its respective insulator. Plasma-initiating members are made in the form of wires or in the form of pointed projections on electrodes.
EFFECT: enhanced reliability and operational repeatability of device.
