FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: method involves taking survey X-ray film of paranasal sinuses in nasomental projection. Zones of interest are detected on the X-ray film corresponding to X-ray detectable maxillary sinus and similar orbit outlines. Histograms are plotted and density coefficient is calculated as ratio of maxillary sinus density given in gray scale units to the similar orbit density given in gray scale units. One peak curve being the case, the zone of interest is selected to be the whole maxillary sinus X-ray outline. Multiple peak curve being the case, the zones of interest are selected to be sinus areas of different densities. The density coefficient taking value of 1.03±0.12, normal case is to be diagnosed. The density coefficient value of 2.28±0.19 points out to purulent contents available in the maxillary sinus, 1.83±0.21 to mucous membrane hyperplasia, 1.78±0.20 to maxillary sinus mucosa polyps without obturation, 2.98±0.24 to polyps obturating the maxillary sinus.

EFFECT: enhanced accuracy and reliability of diagnosis.
