FIELD: quantum electronics; pulse-periodic lasers built around vapors of chemical elements.
SUBSTANCE: method for exciting pulsed laser operating in self-heating mode includes generation of one additional pulse of adjustable pulse-to-pulse delay along with each excitation pulse satisfying following condition: (E1 + E2)f = P, where E1 is excitation pulse energy; E2 is additional pulse energy; f is excitation pulse repetition rate; P is power required for heating working space of laser and for maintaining it at working temperature. Minimal voltage of excitation pulse is chosen to afford inversion in active medium, and time position of additional pulse relative to excitation pulse is varied within generation pulse range.
EFFECT: ability of controlling mean and pulse power of laser beam, generation pulse length, and laser beam divergence.
