FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: the invention is dealt with the field of metallurgy, in particular, with improvement of a method of metallic iron production. The method provides for a heating, recovery and smelting of a mix of the source material composed of carbon-bearing reducing agents and a substance containing iron oxide with production of a metallic iron and a slag. For speeding up a process of carburizing and smelting of the metallic iron a liquid faction of the produced slag is adjusted in the range of 50 up to 100 mass. The invention offers a method for efficient production of a metallic iron of a high purity in the process of a stable operation at muting a damage of a furnace refractory brickwork to a possible minimal level.
