FIELD: production of aluminum by electrolysis in cells with upper electric current lead for supplying current to self-firing anode.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of periodically loading anode mass onto surface of anode placed in anode casing; in order to lower consumption of anode mass and electric energy, thermally insulating lateral surface of anode after cutting through periphery of anode due to charging layer of loose aluminum materials to boards of anode casing. Said layer is fed by depth consisting 0.15 - 0.7 and by thickness consisting 0.007 - 0.035 of height of anode casing.
EFFECT: lowered consumption of electric energy and anode mass.
