FIELD: processes for applying wear resistant coating on cutting tools, possibly at working metals.
SUBSTANCE: vacuum-plasma method for applying wear-resistant coatings containing titanium nitride or carbonitride including chrome and alloying component Silicon is realized by means of two arranged mutually opposite built-up cathodes containing titanium and silicon with use of cathode arranged between above mentioned cathodes and including alloy of titanium and silicon.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of cutting tool due to increased residual compression stresses, improved micro-hardness of coating.
