FIELD: metal working, namely processes for applying wear resistant coating onto cutting tools.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of applying wear resistant coating on base of titanium-silicon nitride or carbonitride onto cutting tool while using zirconium as additional alloying component. Two built-up cathodes arranged horizontally mutually opposite in the same plane and containing titanium - silicon alloy and third built-up cathode containing titanium and zirconium are used for applying coating.
EFFECT: enhanced effectiveness of cutting tool.
