FIELD: metal working, namely processes for applying wear resistant coatings onto cutting tools.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of applying wear resistant coating on base of titanium-silicon nitride or carbonitride by vacuum-plasma deposition process. Chrome is used in addition as alloying component. Such process is realized by means of two built-up cathodes arranged horizontally mutually opposite in the same plane and made of alloy of titanium and silicon. Third built-up cathode is arranged between said two cathodes and it contains titanium and chrome.
EFFECT: enhanced effectiveness of cutting tool.
