FIELD: electrical engineering; general- and special-purpose electrodes of gas-discharge lamps.
SUBSTANCE: optimal radius and size of sintered cylindrical mass are chosen for minimizing length of this mass at its desired volume so as to ensure least radiation loss of heat energy from electrode surface in the course of its warm-up period to temperature at which glow discharge occurring in lamp upon its firing transfers from glow to arc discharge.
EFFECT: enlarged service period of electrode.
