FIELD: metal cutting processes and tools, namely built up cutting tools such as cutters, boring tools and milling cutters.

SUBSTANCE: cutting tip has two identical end surfaces, main lateral surfaces in the form of parallelogram and additional lateral surfaces; four angles. Two of four angles on each end face are protruded and two other are recessed. On one end face protruded and recessed angles are formed diagonally opposite to each other. Each angular lateral surface passes from protruded angle of one end side to recessed angle on other end side and vice versa. End sides have first symmetry axis; main lateral surfaces have second symmetry axis normal to first on and additional lateral surfaces have third symmetry axis normal to first and second symmetry axes. On end sides front surfaces are arranged; said surfaces form at crossing with main and additional lateral surfaces respectively main and additional cutting edges joined by means of angular cutting edges formed by crossing of front surface with angular lateral surface. Supporting surfaces for basing cutting tip in seat of cutting tool body are also arranged on end sides. Said supporting surfaces are in the form of bottoms of recesses formed partially or completely on front surfaces of end sides near angular lateral surfaces and they are arranged in pairs at each side of main plane defined by first and third symmetry axes. On each end side bottoms of recesses arranged near recessed angles are laid in plane or touch plane parallel to plane where bottoms of recesses arranged near protruded angles are arranged. Said planes are parallel to mean plane of cutting tip defined by second and third symmetry axes.

EFFECT: enhanced reliability of basing cutting tip in seat of cutting tool body.
