FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the improved method for preparing acetophenone that is used in perfume. Method involves oxidation of ethyl benzene with alkyl hypochlorite generated in situ from carbon tetrachloride and alcohol by effect of catalyst M0(CO)6, at temperature 170-180oC, for 3-6 h in the mole ratio [M0] : [ethyl benzene] : [CCl4] : [ROH] = (1:100)-(500:500)-(1500:500)-1500, respectively. Method provides preparing the end product with the yield 72-92%.
EFFECT: improved preparing method.
