FIELD: mechanics.
SUBSTANCE: method involves covering object surface with viscous liquid layer containing optically foreign particles, placing the object into gas or liquid flow and producing gas or liquid flow picture on the object surface. Optically foreign particles insoluble in the viscous liquid. The particles are distributed over viscous liquid surface or in its bulk. To produce gas or liquid flow picture on the object surface, two or more subsequent particle distribution images are recorded on object surface under study for gas or liquid flow pattern of interest. It is done in a way that free viscous liquid layer surface displacement, caused by external flow, when recording the succession of sequential images in flow mode under study, makes up 0.1-1% of surface area under recording and this layer stays usable for recording other gas or liquid flow pattern. Particles movement parameters are determined next in the viscous liquid layer by analyzing recorded image sequence. Gas or liquid flow picture is restored from the obtained particle movement parameters on the object surface.
EFFECT: enhanced effectiveness in visualizing flow pattern on object surface.
