FIELD: fluid mechanics.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises coating the surface of object with a layer of viscous liquid, applying the solid particles made of flat members whose sizes comparable with the spatial resolution of the image receiver and thickness is less than that of the layer of viscous liquid. The particles moves under the action of external flow together with viscous liquid. The image receiver records two or more subsequent images of distribution of solid particles on the surface. The parameters of motion of the solid particles are determined by analyzing the image set recorded and are used for retrieving the flow pattern on the surface.

EFFECT: enhanced precision.
