FIELD: electrical engineering; nickel-hydrogen storage batteries mainly used for off-line power systems of artificial earth satellites.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method for servicing nickel-hydrogen storage battery of artificial earth satellite assembled of n cells provided with bypass diodes involves charge-discharge cycles and includes checkup of voltage across each cell and across battery as a whole, checkup of actual discharge and charge capacity and battery charge current. Nickel-hydrogen battery discharge is limited by voltage equal to number (n - 1) of battery cells and also by additional discharge capacity attained after voltage across any of cells has dropped below zero; at level amounting to 0.1 or 0.2 of battery rated capacity the latter is charged with current to 0.6 - 0.8 of its rated value followed by additional charge with pulse current, charge current pulse and length of next interval being chosen from condition affording mean charge current higher in magnitude than self-discharge current of cell. Along with choosing mean additional charge current between 0.02 and 0.04 of rated capacity and prior to initiation of shadow orbits battery is given recovery charge-discharge cycle, discharge being conducted at resistance chosen from formula R=n(1.25 T0/Cr), where n is number of battery cells; 1.25 is mean discharge voltage across cells; T0 is discharge time, h; Cr is rated capacity of battery whose discharge is limited with respect to voltage across n - 1 cells in battery for 40 - 50 h; charge is conducted with current of minimum 0.15 of rated capacity.
EFFECT: enhanced capacity resource characteristics and operating reliability of nickel-hydrogen storage battery.
