FIELD: electrical engineering; off-line power systems.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method for servicing nickel-hydrogen storage battery incorporated in artificial Earth satellite includes battery charge and discharge, its storage in charged condition, periodic charge with pulse current, and its periodic check-up for condition. Charging battery with pulse current involves alternation of charge and discharge pulses, magnitude of charge pulse being set to equal that of rated charge current; mean value of charge pulses is set according to following expression: (Ich.RNS + 3Is-d)/ηch > Ich.RMS > (Id.RNS + Is-d)/ηch, where Ich.RNS is RMS value of charge pulses; Id.RNS is RMS value of discharge pulses; Is-d is maximal self-discharge current of battery; ηch is efficiency with respect to charge current corresponding to Is-d.
EFFECT: enhanced effectiveness of eliminating unbalance in battery capacity which enhances its backup capacity and operating reliability.
