FIELD: protection of spacecraft against damage by space particles.
SUBSTANCE: proposed device is provided with protective shield of cellular structure with compact heavy members made from dense material. Compact heavy members are provided with coat made from light material which may be changed to gas-phase state due to phase or chemical transformation in the course of penetration of compact heavy member into striking particle. Coat may be made from low-density polymer material or composite material whose components may enter into exothermic reaction at penetration of compact heavy member into striking particle. Used as polymer material are polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene or teflon. Used as composite material is "aluminum-teflon" composite at mass ratio of (0.1-0.25) : (0.9-0.75). Cellular structure of protective shield may be made with base in form of screen with compact heavy members secured in its units or in form of base made from light fabric or non-woven material of low density with compact heavy members arranged discretely over entire surface, or metal wire screen whose members are used as compact heavy members.
EFFECT: intensification of destructive action on striking particle; enhanced efficiency of protection; reduced mass of protective shield.
