FIELD: device for protection of spacecraft against space medium particles.

SUBSTANCE: proposed device has cellular protective shield consisting of compact heavy members located discretely and secured on bearing base. Compact heavy members are made from dense material. Size of cell does not exceed half the size of particle and size of compact heavy member does not exceed ¼ of minimum size of particle. Screen may be used as bearing base in which heavy compact members are secured. Bearing base may be made from light fabric or from non-woven material of low density. Compact heavy members may be made from aluminum, steel, copper or composite material containing tungsten. "Tungsten-nickel-iron" alloy may be used as composite material.

EFFECT: high speed and depth of penetration of protective shield members into striking particle; enhanced efficiency of protection; reduced mass of protective shield.
