FIELD: pipeline engineering.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises making sealing member made of a round patch and securing the patch to the traverse of the pressing device by means of a stud that is preliminary welded coaxially to the round patch. The curvature of the patch is the same as of the pipeline. The branch pipe is mounted between the patch and the traverse. One face of the branch pipe tightly abuts against the patch and uniformly compresses the sealing member over periphery. The strengthening split metallic coupling is welded to the patch. After welding the sealing member to the pipeline, the pressing device with the branch pipe is removed, and the stud is cut off. The split coupling is welded to the sealing member. One of the coupling members is provided with the opening whose diameter exceeds the diameter of the patch by at least two thickness of its wall, and the longitudinal welds on the coupling member are made on the metallic washers to protect the walls of the pipeline. The diameter of the patch is chosen depending on the melting temperature of the sealing member. The diameter of the pressing branch pipe is smaller than that of the patch and larger than that of the sealing member.
