FIELD: mechanical engineering; engines.
SUBSTANCE: proposed piston for large-capacity engine has crown made of iron and provided with ring grooves for piston rings. At least upper groove nearest to combustion chamber is provided with wear protective layer in zone of side surface far from combustion chamber. Wear protective layer contains metal matrix with carrying particles. Matrix consists of alloy containing Ni, Cr, B and Si components and carrying particles of hardness higher than that of chromium. Wear protective layer is made in form of filler of recess made in main material of piston crown and passing in radial direction from inner land to outer edge of corresponding groove. Wear protective layer can be formed by spraying, welding or soldering.
EFFECT: increased wear resistance of protective layer.
